Incomplete Gift Non-Grantor Trusts are a way for clients living in high tax states to reduce the state income tax costs associated with their investment portfolios. The trust is set up in a state that has favorable creditor protection laws and no state income tax. The result is that the trust is not subject to state income tax. The trust principal, however, is not removed from the taxable estate and the client retains considerable control over the trust.
